Furniture that changes how your home feels, not just how it looks
Motor City Woodshop Studio designs and handcrafts custom modern furniture for people who want something created specifically for their home or office.
We help clients who cannot find the right piece in a showroom. We create furniture tailored to their space, personal style and everyday needs, with the craftsmanship to last.
We meet you in your space and guide you through a personal design process. The result is a truly original piece that belongs in your home, reflects your story and may someday be fought over by your descendants. The piece we develop together will leave an impression and will last for generations!

Bryan Whitfield, Clarkston, MI.
Have nothing in your house which you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. - William Morris
Designed with you. Built with purpose.
Original design
Your piece is developed around your space, preferences and practical needs. Size, proportion, wood, finish and details are considered together, not selected from a limited menu.
Thoughtful material selection
Every board is chosen for color, grain and how it contributes to the finished design. Locally recovered urban lumber may be used when its character and history strengthen the piece, but the design always comes first.
Engineering discipline
Good furniture must remain beautiful through years of use and Michigan’s seasonal changes. Joinery, structural support, wood movement, hardware and finish are planned carefully from the beginning.
Personal service
You work directly with Bryan Whitfield from the first conversation through design, construction and delivery.
Pieces made for real homes and individual lives
Every commission begins with a different room, need or idea. Explore a selection of dining tables, coffee tables, desks and architectural pieces, along with the thinking and craftsmanship behind them.
Your home should not feel assembled from a catalog
Finding furniture is easy. Finding the right piece is not.
The proportions may be wrong for the room. The materials may feel ordinary. A piece that looks appealing online can become disappointing once it arrives. And too much furniture is made for a short life rather than years of daily use.
A custom piece begins differently. It begins with your room, your taste and the way you want to live. Together, we develop a design that feels at home in your space and distinctly yours.
A piece that brings the room together
The right furniture does more than fill an empty space. It establishes the character of a room, makes everyday living more enjoyable and gives family and friends a natural place to gather.
Whether it is a dining table at the center of family life, a coffee table that completes a carefully considered room or a desk that makes working at home feel better, the goal is the same: to create something you will value every time you use it.
You do not need to arrive with a finished design
Bring a room, a problem, an inspiration photograph or simply an idea. Bryan will help you clarify what the piece should do, how it should feel and what will work best in your space.
From there, the design is developed visually, refined with you and built only after you are comfortable with the direction.
Made for the years ahead
Well-made furniture becomes part of the rhythm of a home. It carries the marks of dinners, celebrations, quiet mornings and ordinary days. Over time, it becomes more than an object. It becomes part of your family’s story.
Motor City Woodshop Studio builds each piece with that future in mind.
What would make your home feel more complete?
If you have a room that needs the right piece, tell Bryan what you are considering. An initial conversation is simply a chance to discuss your space, priorities, timing and the possibilities.
